Career Services implements new platform to aid students and alumni in job searches

As a way to further assist the students and alumni of Saint Xavier University (SXU), Career Services is going to offer a new job recruiting system called Handshake.

“Students will have the capability to not only search for positions and companies, but also set up a comprehensive profile, rate companies, communicate directly with employers, access career development resources and event information, and much more,” said Associate Director of Career Services Josh Baugh.

With a tentative launch date of July 25, Handshake will offer users the opportunity to connect with over 250,000 employers with nearly 100 new job postings added to the database every day. Handshake will be open to both current SXU students and alumni and can offer part-time and full-time positions as well as internship opportunities. Through Handshake, employers can even directly message candidates that they are interested in recruiting for a position.

“Handshake uses algorithms to customize individual student experiences,” said Baugh. “For example, students will see positions of interest to them on their dashboard based on their searches, geographic location and major.”

A truly customizable search engine, Handshake is sure to have a huge impact on SXU students and alumni seeking work. In addition to Handshake, Career Services offers an abundance of resources to students and alumni such as:

  • One-on-one individualized appointments to discuss job search strategies
  • Resume and cover letter development
  • Career counseling
  • Career and major exploration
  • Assistance with networking including social networking (LinkedIn)
  • Mock interviews
  • Graduate and professional school application advising
  • Two Internship and Job Fairs throughout the academic year
