Summer is in session and so is Saint Xavier University’s (SXU) Southside Summer Jazz Camp. Community members in grades six through 12 are welcome to attend and learn from jazz educators to gain confidence and sharpen their skills. All experience levels and instruments are welcome. The camp runs from July 17 – 21, from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. It will take place on SXU’s Chicago campus, 3700 West 103rd Street.
The evenings include daily rehearsals on jazz repertoire, instrumental sectionals, improvisation master-classes, jam sessions, guest concerts, and workshops on music theory. On the final night of camp, there will be a performance for students to showcase their talents and knowledge. The concert will take place on July 21 at 7 p.m. in McGuire Hall.
SXU’s Southside Summer Jazz Camp has a fee of $50 per student, which covers the cost of snacks and a t-shirt. Parents/guardians will also need to fill out a health form, which should be returned to the Office of Academic Affairs at least one week prior to the camp’s start date. They can be mailed to Debbie Nutley at 3700 West 103rd Street, Chicago, IL 60655, emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, or faxed to 773-298-3002.
