Summer is right around the corner and this year Saint Xavier University (SXU) is proud to offer summer camp experiences to youth in the community that inspires creativity, expands their knowledge and motivates them to lead in their schools as well as their communities. SXU’s summer campus incorporate practical lessons with hands-on learning led by University professors and staff. Plus, each camp is held on SXU’s beautiful campus on the South Side of Chicago, exposing youth to the college environment and preparing them for their future.
Camps that will be offered through the 2017 summer include:
Summer President’s Leadership Program: June 12 – 15
SXU is hosting a four-day leadership program June 12 through 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This program, in its first year, is designed to inspire student entering 10th through 12th grades to unleash the leader within. As part of the program, students will discover their talents and abilities and develop important leadership skills through guest speakers and teambuilding exercises. Workshops will also be conducted to prepare high school students for the expectations of college.
Math Summer Camps: June 26 – 30
SXU will host two mathematics summer camps running June 26 through 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The first will be the Mathematics and Art Summer Camp, which is for middle school students (entering grade sixth through eighth); and the Secrets of Mathematics Summer Camp, which is for high school students. These camps provide local students the opportunity to work with SXU mathematics professors, while exploring exciting mathematical topics that are extensions of the traditional school curriculum.
Summer Immersion Course on Financial Trading: June 26 – June 28
SXU is offering a three-day immersion experience on June 26 through 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the University’s new Graham School of Management Center for the Study of Financial Markets and Derivatives (CSFMD). This special immersion experience is open to high school juniors and seniors interested in business, finance and technology. Students will study the fundamentals of trading in stocks, bonds, futures and other financial instruments by using state-of-the-art financial analytics software and will build a portfolio. On the final day, students will present in a competition and receive a certificate of completion.
Student Media Summer Camp: July 17 – 21
SXU’s Student Media Summer Camp will run July 17 through 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The camp is open to incoming high school freshman through graduating seniors. This year’s camp will be focused on radio broadcasting. Come out and learn about radio broadcasting with SXU’s own radio station, WXAV!
SXU-Southside Summer Jazz Camp: July 17 – 21
SXU is pleased to announce its SXU-Southside Summer Jazz Camp is returning this summer, running from July 17 through 21. The camp is open to students in grades sixth through 12th and provides students with the opportunity to learn from and work with SXU’s accomplished group of jazz educators who will help them gain their confidence and improve on their abilities as section players, improvisers and sight-readers.
