Saint Xavier University (SXU) students, faculty and staff participated in the Monetary Assistance Program (MAP) rally on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the Thompson Center in Chicago. Given the budget stalemate in the state of Illinois, the release of MAP funds has now become a crisis issue for many institutions. The group joined other higher education institutions to rally for Governor Bruce Rauner to sign SB 2043, a bill to release MAP funds, which was sent to the Governor on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
At present, 1,600 SXU students and more than 130,000 students in Illinois depend on MAP grants. SXU continually has fought to be at the forefront of efforts to advocate for the release of these funds, especially with their participation in the #MAPmatters campaign.
SXU’s participation in the MAP rally gained the attention of many in the media and across social media platforms.
