Mercy Book Club will host its first discussion this Wednesday, October 23rd, at 4:30 p.m. in the Bishop Quarter Room. All faculty and staff members who signed on to read and converse about Martha Nussbaum’s Not for Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities are invited to attend what promises to be an interesting inter-disciplinary discussion.
Light refreshments will add to the spirit of camaraderie as colleagues from across the University explore issues relevant to SXU’s educational mission.
Participation is still open to interested faculty and staff. Complimentary copies of the text are still available from Maria Llerenas in N430 (Llerenas@sxu.edu or 773-298-3231). Partial reading of the book will suffice for the October 23rd discussion, with a second discussion session set for Monday, November 18th.
Now in its third year, Mercy Book Club is a collaborative effort this semester between the Department of English and Foreign Languages and the Office for Mission and Heritage.
