First Friday Tea will make its third consecutive appearance in as many months on Friday, Nov. 1. All faculty and staff members are encouraged to visit the Butler Reception Room during Tea time (2-3:30 p.m.) for scones and fruit, tea and coffee, clotted cream and sweet treats.
Since the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of All Saints on Nov. 1st, it’s only fitting that the Office for University Mission and Ministry will host this Tea. They promise a décor centered on saintly figures – statues that will, no doubt, prompt questions about the identity and life of those represented.
Staff and faculty from across the University – all locations, all units – are invited and welcome to this last First Friday Tea of calendar 2013. A few Sister of Mercy guests will also attend.
Sponsored by the Office for Mission and Heritage, First Friday Tea honors SXU’s core value of hospitality and the Sister of Mercy tradition of “a comfortable cup of tea.” That phrase recalls Catherine McAuley’s dying wish that, when she was gone, the sisters would have “a comfortable cup of tea.” Among Sisters of Mercy around the world, Catherine’s ability to think of others as she approached death has become a universal symbol of her spirit of hospitality and service. At SXU, it inspired our now familiar practice of First Friday Tea.
