Catch up on colleagues’ summer adventures. Take a breather from the frenzy of semester start-up. Come to First Friday Tea on Fri., Sept. 6 (2 to 3:30 p.m.) in the Butler Reception Room. All faculty and staff are welcome to stop by and linger as long as their schedules allow.
Staff and faculty from the Graham School of Management will host this year’s inaugural Tea. They encourage all – especially newer faculty or staff members, those not located at the Warde Academic Center, and adjunct faculty members – to come for the camaraderie and the conversation. Scones and clotted cream, fruit, tea and coffee, and a surprise or two will sweeten the afternoon.
Sponsored by the Office for Mission and Heritage, First Friday Tea honors SXU’s core value of hospitality and the Sister of Mercy tradition of “a comfortable cup of tea.” That phrase recalls Catherine McAuley’s dying wish that, when she was gone, the sisters would have “a comfortable cup of tea.” Among Sisters of Mercy around the world, Catherine’s ability to think of others as she approached death has become a universal symbol of her spirit of hospitality and service. At SXU, it inspired our now familiar practice of First Friday Tea.
