Michael D. Kathman has been appointed Interim Executive Director of the University Libraries. Kathman will oversee all library operations while a search ensues for a permanent director. His term will be from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2013.
Kathman formerly was Director of Libraries and Media for Alcuin Library at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., serving the institutions for more than 30 years prior to his retirement in 2006. In this role he oversaw the joint libraries that supported two undergraduate liberal arts colleges; a seminary; a graduate school of theology; a special collection of more than 35,000 items, primarily in the areas of sacred art, liturgy, monasticism, theology and art, and history of the book; the Ecumenical Institute; and two academic communities.
He has published and presented widely in the areas of library organization as well as planning and management. He earned a master’s degree in library science and a master’s degree in American studies, both at the University of Michigan. His baccalaureate degree in English literature is from Saint Procopius College (now Benedictine University).
