SXU students commissioned for post-graduate volunteer service

Four Saint Xavier students entering year-long service programs were commissioned at the last Sunday Student Mass of the semester on May 5 in McDonough Chapel. All 2013 spring graduates were invited to be blessed at the liturgy and all who participated received a special symbol of commissioning. Special prayers were recited and sung for the four volunteers: Tara Becker – Good Samaritan Health Clinic, Savannah, Ga. (Mercy Volunteer Corps); Mike Wurster – Cottage Housing, Sacramento, Calif. (Mercy Volunteer Corps); Kelly Mihalik- St. Michael’s Association for Special Education, Ariz. (Mercy Volunteer Corps); and Santina Branch (undecided).

Mercy Volunteer Corps (MVC) is a full-time lay volunteer program offering placements in the continental U.S. and Guyana, South America for a one- or two-year commitment. Mercy Volunteers serve in education, healthcare, and social services. Volunteers commit equally to service, a simple lifestyle in community, and personal and communal spiritual growth. MVC is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. Please visit the Mercy Volunteer Corps website to learn more.
