Seven undergraduate research students traveled to Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. to attend the Tri Beta NC-1 Regional District Research Conference on April 20. Leanne Fischler, Sa’Rah McNeal, Jessica Munoz, Maria Pittos, Lisa Varley, Evelina Vasiliauskas, and Brennan Weaver from the Department of Biological Sciences attended the conference, accompanied by Dr. R. Monzon and Dr. R. Krohmer.
At the conference, students presented their research as either a poster or oral presentation. Sa’Rah McNeal’s presentation, titled “Degresation of Lignin and Ligninesulfonic Acid by a Consortium from Decomposing Wood,” received first place in the oral competition. Maria Pittos’ poster, titled “Showcasing Science: Bringing Botany into the Classroom,” received an Honorable Mention in the Organismal Division.
