2013 Spring Concert Schedule

Saint Xavier University’s Department of Music will host a series of concerts during the spring 2013 semester.

All performances are free for SXU students, faculty, and staff with a current ID, and for prospective students. General admission is $6, and admission for senior citizens, visiting students, and members of the military is $5.

Honors Recital – 7:30 p.m., Fri., April 5, McGuire Hall

Come listen to the Music Department’s top performers at 7:30 p.m. on Fri., April 5 in McGuire Hall. Performers include: Jason Niehoff on harpsichord; Christine Otrembiak & Mary Kavanaugh on flutes; Errol Olson on tuba; and Nicole Henderson as Mezzo Soprano.

 

University Chorale – 7:30 p.m., Sat., April 6, Performance Space

Join SXU’s University Chorale for an exciting program of arias, scenes, and choruses from opera and musical theater. Performances will include: Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess”; J. Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”; Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma”; and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s “Les Miserables.”

 

Flute Choir: “A Celebration of Flutes” – 7:30 p.m., Fri., April 12, McDonough Chapel

A bit of fun and serious flute choir music using the entire flute family.

 

SXU Guitar Ensemble and Jazz Combo Spring Concert – 7:30 p.m., Fri., April 26, McGuire Hall

The SXU Guitar Ensemble will perform arrangements of folk dances from locations around the world, including Spain’s Catalonia region, Jamaica, Mexico, and more. The SXU Jazz Combo will play blues and bebop compositions, standards from the Great American Songbook, and selections in tribute to the late Dave Brubeck.

 

Symphony Orchestra: London Everyday – 7:30 p.m., Thurs., May 2, Performance Space

The orchestra’s program includes chamber winds and strings, and von Suppe’s Poet and Peasant overture, and it culminates by welcoming to the podium SXU Professor of Music Education Martha Morris in Eric Coates’ “London Everyday Suite.”

 

Jazz Ensemble – 7:30 p.m., Fri., May 3, McGuire Hall

The SXU Jazz Ensemble will present a varied program of big band literature ranging from swing era classics to Latin jazz compositions to funk and rock/jazz fusion favorites.

 

Wind Ensemble: Dance! – 7:30 p.m., Sat., May 4, Performance Space

Join us for an eclectic program featuring music for winds inspired by dances from South America to Europe.
