Saint Xavier University will host the sixth annual Support and Technical Assistance Regional Network (STAR NET) Region VI conference from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wed., March 13 at its Orland Park Campus, 18230 Orland Parkway.
The conference, titled “Early Childhood Today: Achieving Standards That Support All Children,” is geared toward parents, caregivers and professionals who shape the lives of children ages birth to eight. It will include workshops addressing six themes, including: social/emotional; speech and language; accommodations; early literacy; health and wellness; and best practices.
Child development specialist Kathey Chvostal-Schmidt, MA, will be this year’s keynote speaker and will deliver a talk titled “Nobody Told Me About the Parents…” Chvostal-Schmidt works with at-risk families with infants and toddlers at an Illinois State Board of Education-funded Prevention Initiative program at the SPEED Early Learning Center in Chicago Heights.
Pre-registration is required, and all participants must register online. On-site and phone registration is not allowed. Seats are limited, and registration is accepted based on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration costs $35, which includes session and workshop materials, continental breakfast, and lunch. Sign-in begins at 8 a.m. the day of the conference.

STAR NET is an approved provider for Continuing Professional Development Units through the Illinois State Board of Education and continuing education for speech-language pathologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and physical therapists through the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
