The Chemistry Department, the School of Education STEM Center, and the Title III Office’s Community-Based Learning program hosted a group of 15 high school women from the Madonna Foundation on Feb. 23 at SXU’s Chicago campus.
These “Madonna Scholars” are high-achieving youths from across Chicago who have demonstrated financial need. This event provided an opportunity for the Madonna Scholars to learn about college life and to explore careers in STEM fields. Ten SXU students led the Madonna Scholars in performing exciting Chemistry demonstrations that relate to phenomena in our daily lives, and a panel of SXU alumni and other professionals in STEM fields talked with the Madonna Scholars and SXU students about their professions. Madonna Scholars also received lunch and a campus tour.
