Mark A. Vargas, Executive Director of the University Libraries, is leaving Saint Xavier University on June 30, 2013 after eleven years of service. Mark has accepted a position as Library Dean at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
While at SXU, Mark led a transformation of the Library that included three phases of renovation. He revamped the book and video collections, served as project director for $6.5 million in grants, and led a vast expansion of online resources and services. Mark also led two strategic plans and is completing the Library’s first-ever program review.
Through Mark Vargas’ leadership the Saint Xavier library has become an exceptional resource supporting students in their academic work and faculty in their research and scholarly activity. Mark has shaped the collection, bringing to the University an extensive digital resource. At the same time, he transformed the library into a contemporary space that serves students in how they learn and study today. He has our deep gratitude for all of this and more as well as our best wishes as he moves on to a new opportunity.
Over the next weeks, we will be planning the search for the next Library Director.
