Saint Xavier University will host “Be Inspired,” an event celebrating children’s accomplishments in the community with local author Camesha B. Jackson, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 9. The event will take place in the Butler Reception Room, located in the Warde Academic Center at SXU’s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is inspired by Jackson’s book, titled “The Boy Who Cried CAN’T!” This story is about a third grader named Chris who has a gift but is unable to see it within himself because he’s afraid of what others may think. Jackson, a 2010 SXU alumna, will read the book aloud and meet with the audience. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. Attendees will have a chance to discuss the book and hear several stories of achievement told by children. The event also includes raffles, games, and a special celebration for the launch of the Inspiring Innovators Literary Group website.
Jackson hails from Calumet Park and resides in Chicago’s south side. She earned a master’s degree in elementary education from SXU and works as a Chicago Public Schools teacher at Ruggles Elementary School.
