Shannon Center Weekly Nutrition Tip

Get ready to relax and fire up the grill because Labor Day is just around the corner! Summer get-togethers and cookouts don’t mean you have to compromise your healthy meal plan. By keeping portion sizes in check, you can still plan a well-balanced and satisfying meal.

Check out Eating Well’s Healthy Labor Day Recipes for some ideas. Here’s a suggested meal plan to get you started:

Roasted zucchini and pesto

-Double this recipe and get two one-cup servings to increase your vegetable intake.

Grilled ribeye with tomato salad and chimichurri sauce

-One serving will provide four ounces of protein and one cup of vegetables.

Grilled corn with chipotle-lime butter

-An ear of corn provides one serving of starch.

Watermelon-Yogurt Ice

-Gives you a 1/2 cup serving of fruit that is low in fat and will help keep you cool during hot summer days

Finally, don’t forget to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated while you enjoy the holiday!
