Saint Xavier University to Host the Work of Artist Maria Scileppi

Saint Xavier University will host an art exhibit featuring the work of Maria Scileppi from now to Mon., Feb. 6. The exhibit, titled “Crossroads,” will be on display in the SXU Gallery, located in the Warde Academic Center at the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. The exhibit also includes an artist’s lecture and reception at 3:30 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 31 in the Gallery.

Scileppi uses custom patented software to create video and prints using GPS data of people’s movements over time.

“My art process arises out of the sincere belief that “life is art,” that each individual is the ambassador of their life aesthetic,” she said. “By capturing and collecting data from the activities of living, I am able to define communities by revealing a common narrative.”

Scileppi holds a BFA with a concentration in ceramics and installation art from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Her work has been exhibited throughout Chicago.

The SXU Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, please contact the Gallery at 773-298-3081.
